Business email can be included with web hosting, but the number of addresses, storage per mailbox and free period are separate limits. Included email can suit a sole trader with modest needs. A team that needs independent accounts, shared access or a large message history should check those requirements before choosing the website package.
Compare shared hosting for your website, then check the shortlisted provider’s exact email allowance. The comparison helps with the web package; a large website storage figure does not establish how much space each inbox receives.
What does “email included” actually cover?
A mailbox stores messages and normally has its own sign-in. An alias is an additional address attached to an existing mailbox; it is not another person’s private inbox. A delegated shared mailbox lets authorised people handle the same correspondence through their own accounts, where the email service supports that feature.
Write down how many people need separate access, the size of their existing mail histories and whether enquiries need joint handling. Also ask about sending limits, recovery options, renewal charges and access when the website subscription ends. None of those answers follows from the amount of web space alone.
Three current packages show why the detail matters
These are product examples checked on 29 October 2026, not an email-provider ranking or a price comparison. Provider UK offers can differ from the global offers and approximate GBP conversions displayed in a comparison.
Hostinger: check the included period and the email service
The Hostinger UK Premium web-hosting offer lists two mailboxes per website free for one year. The same page advertises a 48-month hosting term: that does not turn the email benefit into four years of free mailboxes.
Hostinger’s email-limits documentation lists 1 GB per mailbox for its one-year email trial and 5 GB for paid Business Starter. Other trials and older services have different limits. Confirm the email product and allowance in the account rather than applying one table to every Hostinger customer. The Emails area distinguishes Hostinger Email from services such as Titan, Google Workspace and cPanel email.
See Hostinger’s hosting overview if it is on your shortlist, then verify the UK order and subsequent email charges directly.
IONOS: count mailboxes and their individual capacity
The IONOS UK web-hosting comparison lists one mailbox with Standard, two with Plus, four with Premium and five with Ultimate, with 2 GB per mailbox. For example, Plus lists 200 GB of website storage; that is not 200 GB for each email account.
Review IONOS as a hosting option, but check the particular product’s email upgrade route if an existing mailbox already exceeds 2 GB.
Namecheap: a generous count still needs a storage check
Namecheap’s Stellar shared-hosting package lists 30 mailboxes and 20 GB of hosting storage. The mailbox count is not a promise of 20 GB for each mailbox, and the shared-hosting allowance should not be confused with the separately sold Private Email product.
Use the Namecheap overview to assess the web package. Ask how email storage is allocated in the exact plan before moving an archive or choosing it for a team.
Two small-business briefs, with different answers
A sole trader with three public addresses
In this fictional example, one person wants a named address, an enquiries address and an accounts address. All correspondence belongs to that person, the total history is 600 MB and nobody else needs private access.
One mailbox with two aliases could meet the address requirement if the chosen service supports them. Check the total storage allowance and whether replies can use each advertised address. Buying three mailboxes merely because three addresses appear on the website may add unnecessary cost. Included hosting email is a reasonable option once the first-year and renewal conditions are confirmed.
Two colleagues, each with a 4 GB history
In this second fictional brief, two people need their own private mailboxes and both answer customer enquiries. Each already has 4 GB of messages. A 1 GB trial mailbox or a 2 GB mailbox cannot hold either history as it stands. More website storage does not resolve that mismatch.
The shortlist needs two independently accessible mailboxes with confirmed capacity above the current history and room to grow. It also needs a supported way to share enquiries. That might be a suitable email upgrade from the host or a separate team email service. For comparison, Microsoft 365 shared mailboxes use delegated access: each person accessing one needs an appropriately licensed Exchange Online mailbox. The shared mailbox’s own licensing rules are separate.
When does separate email make sense?
Separate email is worth considering when team permissions, calendars or a shared working inbox drive the purchase more than the website does. It also lets you plan a website-hosting change without automatically moving the email service. Keeping services separate still requires control of the domain’s DNS settings and clear responsibility for support.
If your email already works in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another service, a new web host is not by itself a reason to move it. For the website part, use our existing checklist for moving a website while preserving its services. Copying the site and transferring a mailbox’s stored messages are different jobs.
What to confirm before ordering
- People and roles: separate accounts for independent users, plus any genuinely shared work.
- Capacity: the limit per mailbox, the current history and the upgrade route.
- Included period: when free email ends, what is charged next and which subscription pays for it.
- Operational needs: supported clients, sending limits, recovery and who handles a migration.
- Exit: how to export messages and what happens to email when website hosting is cancelled.
Once those answers fit your business, compare the web-hosting packages for the site itself. Choose the combination of website and email services that meets the brief, rather than the largest address count.
